Imerys Talc America – which supplies Johnson & Johnson with talc for Johnson’s Baby Powder and other products – has reached a settlement on the eve of trial with a woman who alleges she developed mesothelioma cancer from exposure to talcum powder. The lawsuit, filed by California resident Carolyn Weirick, will proceed to jury deliberations with Johnson & Johnson as the sole defendant. (more…)

Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay $21.7 million in damages in a California lawsuit filed by a woman who was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer. The lawsuit alleged that exposure to asbestos in Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder product caused the women to develop mesothelioma, a deadly form of cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure. A jury has ordered Johnson & Johnson and Imerys Talc America to pay $117 million in damages in a lawsuit filed by a New Jersey man who was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer after years of using Johnson & Johnson talcum powder products. The lawsuit accused the two companies of failing to ensure that the talc used in Johnson’s Baby Powder, Shower to Shower, and other talc brands was asbestos-free. (more…)
